Those that have known me for a while will probably be aware that I’ve been happily employed at Worldpay for a very long time. Seventeen years in fact. Which is why it’s all a bit scary to say that as of the beginning of this year, I jumped off the good ship Worldpay, and struck out for the horizon on my own as an independent consultant.
The first couple of weeks of the year have been interesting, navigating the shallow waters of company set-up, and I’m very glad to say that I am now the proud owner of Stormglass Consulting Ltd (digital presence to follow soon) and next week, I head out onto the high seas of consultancy. Fingers crossed for a fair wind and calm seas.
Leaving Worldpay was a very tough decision. I’ve had a fantastic time, travelled all over the world, and worked with some really lovely and talented people. It just felt like the right time to go on a new adventure. I’m really going to miss my friends though.

Why Stormglass, I hear you* ask? Well, storm glasses were carried by many ships in the nineteenth century as a way of forecasting the weather and indeed one was aboard HMS Beagle as Charles Darwin made his momentous journey to the Galapagos Islands and beyond. Predicting the future is a challenging game, but at least this method is quite good looking. Plus the word “storm” is cool.
Anyway, this blog will chart my course over the months and years ahead. I’ll talk about lots of payment and identity things, IOT, the rise of mobile, as well as other things that I find interesting and hope you do too. Whether you’re interested to hear about the future of payments, or just have a morbid curiosity to see if I end up clinging to the figurative wreckage, please give me a follow.
